Cyclone Alfred (Sunday 9th March)

I pray that as we face the impact of Cyclone Alfred that we might be very much aware of the presence and assurance that we have because we know that we are in the loving care of our Heavenly Father, the One who is Sovereign all things. It may be that the storm may roar around us but that we can have confidence in facing these. We can be anchored with the knowledge that our God is the one who can still the storm. As it says in Psalm 107 :

29 He [God] stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
31 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.

As you will have heard from the news, the path, timing and severity of this cyclone seems to be changing multiple times a day. So we do not know how this will impact our region or our homes. I would encourage you to stay safe and to allow this cyclone to take its path. If anyone is seriously worried about their safety then it is important that you take all steps to protect yourself and to contact the relevant emergency services. Please see the end of the Email for a list of helpful numbers. If your property is impacted and you need assistance after the event then please reach out and our Church family will do its best to share your burden and to help to support you.

It is also unclear what the situation may be like on Sunday. The cyclone should have passed but there may be major issues with roads, transport, flooding and debris. At this point we shall still be holding the service at Church on Sunday, but if the situation is difficult or dangerous then please stay home. As usual, I shall be live streaming the Sunday service either from the church or from my home (if travelling to church is impossible), depending on having power and internet connectivity.

I pray that you might be very aware of the peace and protection of our gracious Lord and Saviour surrounding you at this time. May He keep us in His mighty hand.

Isaiah 41: 10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand…

13 For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

You are very much in my prayers and remember if you are impacted and need help please reach out and let me know.

Your pastor & friend,

Graeme
